Bereavement Counseling for Surviving Military Family Members

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will become familiar with the various services provided through Readjustment Counseling Services, with an emphasis on bereavement counseling for surviving military family members. A variety of resources will be available as well as therapeutic approaches to helping families cope with traumatic death.

Objectives:

  •  Become knowledgeable o valuable resources available for providers who work with families who have lost a loved one while serving in the Armed Forces.
  • Understand how traumatic death is often more difficult for families and friends.
  • Develop skills for assessing the needs of the surviving family members and friends.
  • Obtain information that can be useful in determining the therapeutic approach most appropriate for helping families and friends cope with a traumatic death.
