Thursday Course Descriptions

Faith-Based Responses to Community Violence

Speaker(s): Rev. Bryan England

Time: Thursday, July 12th at 3:30 pm

Length: 90 minutes

From drive-by shootings to violence in the workplace to mass murders in our schools, the United States is caught in a cycle of violence that seems to have no end. This workshop is intended to explore the root causes of violence in our nation and on our streets, to explore faith-based interventions that have been used to counter the violence, and to propose other activities for joint action within the faith-based community.  The workshop is designed for lay and ordained members of faith communities to wish to act to stop the violence.

At the end of our presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Understand some of the causes of community violence
  • Identify various spiritual and religious interventions used to counteract violence
  • Network for further action
