J. Stuart Munro, M.D., associate professor of psychiatry, was appointed have department of psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and Western Missouri Mental Health Center in 2002. He has served as the department’s interim chair since the spring of 2000 when he replaced long-time department chair Robijn K. Hornstra, M.D. Munro currently serves as director of education for the Department of Psychiatry and assistant medical director of Western Missouri Medical. Mental Health Center and is on staff as a consultant at Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill. Munro served as interim dean of the School of Medicine in 1996, and has also served as associate dean for academic affairs and assistant dean for years I and II medicine. He has received several teaching awards including Faculty of the Year Award in the Department of Psychiatry in 1992 and 1993, and 1986 School of Medicine Teacher of the Year. He has also been active in research and written a number of journal articles. A fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Munro received his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and completed his residency training in psychiatry at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He joined the Western Missouri Mental Health Center in 1985 and received the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in 1994. |
