Marie Bellatin, PhD
Dr. Anna Maria Bellatin has been
in practice for over 20 years in the non-for-profit
sector as well as in the private sector. She is the
former clinical director of the Mattie Rhodes Center,
a mental health agency for Latino families. Currently,
she works with a very diverse client population.

This session will focus on the effects
of the vicarious trauma which arises from providing
professional care (ranging from physical disability
to emotional distress, self medication and
premature burnout) on worker performance. In
addition to discussing the cognitive, emotional
and behavioral symptoms which may arise as
a result of prolonged professional care giving,
several possible strategies will be offered
with regards to self care, supervisory interventions,
external supports and trauma recovery in order
to prevent burnout and in some cases, destructive
service delivery. Ethical issues regarding
clinical judgement and worker burnout will
also be addressed.

Linda
Brown
Linda Brown is staff chaplain and Coordinator of Spiritual Health Services for
Truman Medical Centers on Hospital Hill in Kansas City, Missouri. A former classroom
teacher and university professor, Brown is developer and coauthor of several
norm-referenced tests including the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence, Fourth Edition;
the Behavior Rating Profile, Third Edition; the Adaptive Behavior Inventory;
the Index of Personality Characteristics; the Self-Esteem Index; and the Test
of Early Socioemotional Development. She is also coauthor of the book A Consumer’s
Guide to Tests in Print, Second Edition, and author of Assessing the Socioemotional
Development and Intervention Needs of Students.
