Wednesday Course Descriptions
What Y’all Gon’ Do With Me? (Let’s talk about it) - The African-American Spiritual and Ethical Guide to End of Life Care Speaker(s): Gloria Thomas Anderson Time: Wednesday, July 11th at 1pm Length: 90 minutes This workshop addresses end of life care as it correlates to the specific needs and concerns of the African-American population and provides a foundational understanding for social work practitioners from a contextual perspective. Because of African-Americans’ unique cultural history and value system, the decision-making process on end of life issues is often greatly impacted by spiritual and religious influences. Racial disparity in health care has caused many people of color not to trust doctors or proposed treatment options. Ethical end of life decision-making encompasses much more than a medical dimension. Culture, history and generational family values are key factors that contribute to end of life decision-making of African-Americans. - - BACK TO WEDNESDAY'S CLASS LISTINGS- -
