Effects of Trauma on the Family

This presentation on how trauma affects the family will increase your understanding of the trauma response and how the entire family is impacted after a traumatic injury or death of one of its members. Participants will learn how to identify and address the psychological distress symptoms and how they manifest themselves.
Objectives:
- Identify symptoms of trauma.
- Learn appropriate ways to address sensitive issues with your child.
- Recognize behaviors that are normal and differentiate from those that may be problematic.
- Identify how to respond to a family who has experienced a traumatic event.
- Recognize how parental response to trauma can affect the recovery of children.
- Describe ways extended family and friends can interact with a family coping with a traumatic loss or event.
- Learn methods of empowering the survivor.
