The Effects of Trauma on the Family

This presentation on how trauma affects the family will increase your understanding of the trauma response and how the entire family is impacted after a traumatic injury or death of one of its members. Participants will learn how to identify and address the psychological distress symptoms and how they manifest themselves.

Objectives:

  •  Identify symptoms of trauma.
  • Learn appropriate ways to address sensitive issues with your child.
  • Recognize behaviors that are normal and differentiate from those that may be problematic.
  • Identify how to respond to a family who has experienced a traumatic event.
  • Recognize how parental response to trauma can affect the recovery of children.
  • Describe ways extended family and friends can interact with a family coping with a traumatic loss or event.
  • Learn methods of empowering the survivor.
